What happened to us?
What is up with nobody valuing the gifts they've been given?
Weed, girls, guys and clubs; that's the standard for living?
We live in a society where average is good enough
Everybody wants to be smoking that green stuff
nobody respects anybody anymore
Any door with brains behind it is a closed door
We got to reach higher to reach for that thing out of reach
Parents need to stop sitting idly by and start to teach
What happened to us?

Knowledge is power is what I learned
Excellence in the streets is excellence ill earned
Fast cash, fast ass fast won't last.
There's too much friction for this dangerous way we living
AIDS and HIV are rampant. The epidemic is raging
Statistics are coming true, more and more of us are being taken
Jails and cemeteries are filling up
People are scared to even hope things are going to start looking up
What happened to us?

These drugs and alcohol aren't good for us or anyone else
To love others first you've gotta love yourself
Love and life are becoming less precious
Come on people we've got to get serious
What can we expect for our children if we don't want anything for ourselves?
The world is dieing what will be left for the future?
What out the front door and someone may shoot you?
Stop snitchin? Not me I value my life
How can we live to together if we live in strife?

Stop idolizing these idiots on the corners
The way they live has got nothing for you
They aren't going to make it but if you try you can
United we're falling when before united we would stand
They aren't soldiers they're cowards
They waste their life scared if they'll make it through the next 12 hours
Girls with promise waste it on these so called thugs
These dudes are afraid f jobs where they'll need coffee mugs
What happened to us?

Nine-to-five that's the life for me
Stop. Look around. What do you see?
Depression and desperation and desolation
That's the new fade across the nation
Come on people we need a battle cry
I'm ready to go to war for my beliefs I'm ready to die
Because I don't believe I'm ready to die
Because I don't believe in drugs or alcohol
As one we've got to take control of this tragic situation

We are descended from queens and kings
Now we aren't worthy to hold royal things
Before there was pride and glory
Now every life is becoming a tragic horror story
I don't know about you but I must make a stand
My life and my nieghborhood back I will demand!
Nobody should live in fear
together we can fix what is broken here

Take my advice and do something with your life
You can dream safely for one night
You've got to take a step into these educational institutions
Everyone needs to take a step back and survey the situations
We've dug ourselves a hole an don't know how to get out of it!
There's still time we still have a chance to fix this!
