Remembering the Rains...

These days past have been dry and hot
Going far trying to find a shady spot...
My thirst is aching and breaking me down...
Looking for the moisture that is nowhere to be found
Everyday I feel myself growing weak
Looking for the sustenance I need
The plants are dry and brittle and dust clouds the air
I search the riverbed but not a drop is to be found there.
The precipitation is missing from my life
And heat cuts the air like a razor edged knife
Dying and drying out from the sweltering heat
Looking for the liquid so cool and sweet
Alone I quest for water in wells deep
For pain racks my body and I ache for sleep
But first i must quench this driving desire
For my body is rung out no way to perspire
Lightning and thunder i pray they crack the sky
For without a merciful rain i shall surely die
Remembering the days of old when men danced for the rain
They knew not what they did but they danced insane
Should i dance too? like men of old
Or will i laugh and scorn and scold
Screaming at the dauntless sky
Asking pleading searching why... why...?
